FAQs
Is there something I can do if I see people scavenging from my carts?
Scavenging is against the law, please call, (SCAVENGING ENFORCEMENT HOTLINE) - City of HB 714-374-1739

What should be done on collection days?
  • Please set carts out by 6:30 am on collection day.
  • Please position your carts on the street in the same spot they were placed when delivered to you with the wheels touching the curb.
  • Make sure they are at least 1 foot apart and at least 2 feet away from any obstruction like parked cars or walls.
  • PLEASE REMOVE CARTS FROM STREET AFTER SERVICE.
What type of containers must be used?
Only carts provided by Rainbow Environmental Services will be collected. The carts are specifically designed for automated collection and come equipped with a hinged, tight-fitting cover, handle bars and large wheels. They have a life expectancy of ten to twelve years. Carts are the property of Rainbow Environmental Services and are assigned to each residence. Please leave them behind if you move.

Why do collection trucks come at different times?
The time each cart takes depends on the number of and type of carts set out. For example, not every resident will set out a green cart each week, and if fewer green carts are out, the green waste truck will be faster.

Why do I have to sort my trash into Brown, Blue, and Green carts?
Having residents recycle at the source helps to keep recyclable materials clean out of the landfill. The amount of waste in your brown cart should be significantly reduced. As a reminder, pet waste should always be placed in the brown Trash Cart. It is also important to keep all Green Waste, Food Waste, and anything with food on it out of the Blue Recycle Cart.

I have noticed some people trying to throw extra bags of trash into the truck after it has emptied the cart. Is this allowed?
NO, this is dangerous and all materials should be placed in one of the carts for automated pick-up.

What if my carts are too big?
If you do not have the space to move the 95-gallon carts through your gateway, 65-gallon carts are available by request. To request a change to your cart selection, please contact Rainbow Environmental Services. In specific circumstances, 35-gallon carts are available for those with a demonstrated need.

What if I need extra capacity?
An additional cart request for recyclables and/or green waste upon review may be delivered free of charge. An additional trash cart will be available for a one-time service charge of $75.

Do I have to put all of my carts out?
This is up to you. If one of your carts is not completely full and you want to wait until it is, you may do so, however please put out your Trash Cart (Brown) every week for odor and vector control.

I am finding that my Recycle cart is very full every week. Can I receive another Blue Cart?
Yes, call Rainbow Environmental Services to order another Recycling Cart. There is no charge for an extra Recycling Cart or a larger one.

My Cart is dirty, can I get a new one?
Carts are easily cleaned with mild soap and water. Cart exchanges are made, only if damaged. Please contact Rainbow customer service for more information.

Does Rainbow pick up Bulky Items?
Rainbow offers special free pick ups of bulky items to its residential customers. You may request as many as four pick-ups per year (10/4 Pick-up Program). We will collect up to ten items per pick-up. Those items may include bagged trash, as well as old appliances, furniture or bundles of yard clippings. Bagged trash may not weigh more than 40 lbs. Branches must be bundled and tied and not exceed four feet in length. Please contact Customer Service and speak to a representative to arrange for pick up of unwanted bulky items at least 24-48 hours in anticipation of your regularly scheduled trash pick up service.

What if someone took my unwanted bulky item in the middle of the night?
Please call customer service to cancel your bulky item pick up if the item is no longer available at the pick up location.
