Sharps Disposal
Dispose of sharps waste properly. Since September 2008, it has been illegal to dispose of home generated sharps, including syringes and lancets, in the trash or recycling containers. The law requires all sharps waste be transported to a collection center or to a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center in a heavy-duty puncture resistant container with a tight fitting lid, such as a plastic milk jug. Note that our work force reported an increase in Sharps found in every day trash. We care about the safety of our workers, please take household sharps to the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center.

Fluorescent tubes disposal
Did you know that fluorescent light tubes, curly bulbs and lamps contain traces of mercury that can become hazardous. These must be properly handled when they no longer work. DO NOT DISCARD IN TRASH. They must be taken to Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center or they can also be recycled by an authorized recycling program. Please look for flourescentr takeback programs at retail centers such as Home Depot, Orchard Supply Hardware, or Lowe's.
Material Exchange Program (MEP)

Did you know that you can get a variety of free household products through the Orange County-Operated Material Exchange Program located at Rainbow Environmental Services? Useful household, yard and car care products, cleaners, paints, and more are available for free. Orange County residents can choose up to five items from the selection of partially used and unused containers. Not only are you saving money when you visit the MEP Center but you are helping the environment by using up products that would normally be sent to the hazardous waste landfill.

MEP Center is open the same hours as the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m.to 3:00 p.m. Both centers are closed on Sundays, Mondays and also on rainy days.
